How to prepare for your first design consultation

A first consultation goes further when you bring a few things with you. None of them need to be finished or perfect; they simply help the designer see your home the way you do.

Bring the space

A floor plan is ideal, but photos taken from each corner of the room work just as well. Note the ceiling height and where the windows face, because light shapes almost every decision that follows.

Bring how you live

  • Who uses the room, and at what time of day
  • What you keep there that has no good place yet
  • What annoys you about the room today
  • What you would keep exactly as it is

Bring a range, not a number

A rough budget range lets the designer suggest what is realistic: which rooms to do first, where to spend on materials and where a simpler finish will do.

Bring pictures you love

Screenshots, magazine pages or a room in a friend's house. It does not matter if they do not match each other. Patterns appear quickly, and they say more than any style name.

Tell us about the room. We will come and measure it.
